Have you updated your resume? If not it would be high time for you to do so. We have been witnessing cost cutting in various areas on account of the economic crisis. Even in our organization we are looking forward to avoid any unwanted expenditures or planning to delay the same for future. Major cost cutting is happening in terms of job cuts or in the form of project delays. If the correction in the economy doesn’t happen soon, organizations will be forced to lay off people majorly in ITES, Financial Sector, BPO and others. In such an uncertain situation, I don’t think so you would like to be unprepared to face the worst case scenario.  Come on get up and update your resume before it is too late for you to act. Here are tips on how you should manage in such an event and what you should do to overcome any unforeseen circumstances.

Know Your Industry Well.

Gain knowledge and education on whats the latest happening in the market.  Take a stock of your current job position and industry. What all skills are required by you to add value to your current profile and how you can broaden your knowledge. Try to get some course/certifications that will add weight to your resume writing. Companies are nowadays looking for professional who are proficient in multi tasking and handling various assignments at the same time which leads to greater job security and flexibility.

Look For Customised Objective.

The trend has changed drastically and recruiters & employers are very focused in hiring a person who would fit into their requirement. Rather than knowing what you want to do in your career, they would be more interested in what you can offer to the company. Therefore make sure to highlight your accomplishments rather than your career aspirations.

Highlight Your Skills

Today more and more organizations are moving towards business results versus business processes and they look forward to recruit someone who brings technical and softer skills on the table. Your job responsibilities might change from time to time however your inherent skills go with you even you change jobs. Highlight them while you are making your resume and at the time of writing resume you should be in as state to present solutions to the employer’s problems.

Stability is Paramount

Every employer wants to recruit people who stay with them for long. Your resume should project yourself as a stable employee. If you have been changing jobs frequently, you need to have valid justifications in this regard that can smartly cover up in your resume. Avoid mentioning jobs where you have spend less than 6-8 months.

Don’t Be Too Loud

Don’t exaggerate on your strengths too much which might portray your candidature to be too expensive for the employer to afford. They are not at all in a mood to overpay people in such times hence highlight your skills and achievements which are flexible on salary terms. Never quote a salary figure but wait patiently for the employer to discuss salary details and always keep your salary expectation in ranges and not exact figures which might result your profile been rejected in the preliminary shortlisting.

I pray to God that you never witness such tough situations in your life, however one must stay prepared and focused. You never know when you may need to make and float your resume in the tight job market.
